We are seeking an Audio-Visual Technologist/Designer, with a strong interest and background in Audio Visual technologies and systems design. You will work as part of a large, cross-disciplinary team developing experiential designs for public places from concept through to installation and commissioning. This is a chance to conceive of novel, site-specific designs and stay with the project from start to finish to see them built and installed.
The Designer will be responsible for supporting design teams in developing creative, innovative solutions and novel technological platforms that are robust and seamlessly integrated into the overall experience. We are looking for a designer that is flexible and can work with new technologies as well as find new applications for existing technologies.
This designer will be responsible for bringing ideas to the table for what technology is appropriate for any given project for both front-end, visitor facing technology as well as back-end systems technology.
This designer must have an interest in and understanding of new trends in technology across all industries and applications (e.g. computing, sensors, architectural lighting, projection mapping) for possible implementation as well as an in-depth understanding of back-end control systems technologies, processors and monitoring.
While the primary focus of this role is on AV Systems, this person must have a solid understanding of software platforms, network structures and enjoys working alongside a diverse and interdisciplinary team that includes content designers, physical designers, creative directors and project managers.
Idea development with a focus on AV technical strategy working with project teams during ideation, design and production project phases
Contribute to the larger design vision by bringing creative ideas to the table for how and why technology should be used
Design, plan and run mockups and play-testing in our LAB space and off-site
Conduct production observation including, site/shop reviews, AV systems document review, punch lists, and troubleshooting
Coordinate with external partners and consultants such as systems integrators, fabricators and architects for technologies and systems related issues
Project cost estimating for AV technologies and installation
Schematic systems design document production
Prototyping and testing of new technologies, applications and systems
Provide in-house technology inspiration through introduction of new technologies into our office environment and design process
Stay current with trends (and fads) in the market and help create awareness around new ways to implement technology.
Work alongside the in house Production Manager to help inform budgets, RFPs and partner selection.
Review construction and perform punch lists during installation and construction to approve quality of installed technologies.
Review installed systems to ensure they are ready for software and media installation.
Knowledge of audio-visual control systems, hardware and software (e.g. projectors, LEDs, directional audio, and video routing)
Familiarity with electrical schematics and systems design schematics
Familiar with developing media/content for non-traditional display technologies
Familiar with developing media/content that is generative/software-driven
Knowledge of architectural drawing software (Vectorworks, AutoCAD, Rhino or similar)
Experience with permanent installation
Excellent written and oral communication skills and demonstrated ability to work well with team members
Proactive in communicating with internal teams and external partners
An advanced degree specializing in interactive Technologies, Audio Visual Design, Entertainment Technology, Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
3-5 years of experience in developing experience design for public spaces
Holds a OSHA 10 or 30 hour construction safety certification, received in the past four years
Ideally holds an AVIXA CTS or CTS-D AV industry certification
