The future of modern placemaking lies in the advancement of digital experience design. Creating well-designed spaces that offer dynamic, relevant and delightful experiences to expand and evolve both the spaces it inhabits and the imagination of the people within it.

As a part of the 2018 Digital Signage Expo’s educational conference dedicated to digital displays, interactive technology and digital communications networks, ESI Design’s Michael Schneider, Senior Designer and AV Technologist, will present an hour-long talk titled, “Making Places: Designing for the Non-Traditional Media Canvas.”

What to Expect: Modern Placemaking and its Practical Applications

Drawing on his technical and creative expertise, Michael Schneider, ESI Design’s senior designer and AV technologist, will explore how to navigate both the spaces and the content when designing for this world of non-traditional media canvases. Schneider will highlight case studies of his recent projects that have captured the public’s attention and imagination – from Washington, D.C.’s Terrell Place to eBay’s Silicon Valley campus – and reveal how non-traditional digital displays are reshaping the future of interior spaces and design.

“Nowadays, when you walk into an office, building lobby, or store that’s filled with static imagery, it can feel passive or isolated,” said Schneider. “This session will explore how we now live in a world where the public expects well-designed spaces to be dynamic, delightful, and relevant. We’ll look at innovations like motion activated media walls, dynamic media that wraps around columns, lighting that changes with the direction of the sun, and other innovations.”

Attendees will walk away having seen best-in-class examples of non-traditional media canvases, and with concrete ideas on how to take the design thinking and processes for these installations and apply them to their next project.

The event will conclude with a Q&A with Schneider.
