A new Hollywood icon is made with

film-inspired supergraphics

Using vibrant colors and eye-catching graphics, ESI transformed this North Hollywood property into a standout workplace for a growing community of creative media professionals.

A bold new 10,000-square-foot supergraphic promotes the building’s artful identity.

Opportunity: Centrally located in the Los Angeles Media District, 5161 Lankershim Boulevard is home to a variety of digital animation and production studios serving the entertainment industry. Owner Beacon Capital asked ESI Design to develop a new identity for the building and invigorate the public spaces to better reflect the creativity of its tenants.

Solution: Using playful colors and epic-scale supergraphics, ESI made the property stand out in the surrounding streetscape, created a more vibrant entry experience, and better utilized the courtyard and terrace.

The black-and-white supergraphics that criss-cross 10,000 square feet of the facade have the look and feel of a filmstrip, inspired by the creative activity that transpires within the building. Along the edges and entrances of the building, colorful bands recall the process in film and television in which light is mixed to produce a broad array of colors. This visual language is echoed in the new building logo and improved wayfinding.

The playful graphics and colors continue from the exterior of the building to the interior, bringing energy to the public thoroughfares. In the previously unused courtyard, bright furniture and a new canopy create a welcoming environment for tenants to congregate.

In the lobby, behind the new security desk, a digital installation features media abstracted through layers of acrylic. The vertical pattern in the media echoes the colorful strips on the exterior and interior, once again referencing the creative processes of film and animation.

Result: The redesign of 5161 Lankershim Boulevard has repositioned this classic Hollywood building for a community of young creatives in the media and entertainment industry.
