ESI designed an innovative master plan and exhibit program for The Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest that would provide an enriching experience to attract visitors back season after season.
The cornerstone of the design is the new Bernheim Visitor Center, which purposefully blurs the boundaries between indoor and outdoor environments. The Center highlights Bernheim’s programs through interactive exhibits that engage visitors, like a tactile map that orients visitors to the geography of the region and a display that gives visitors insights into the Arboretum’s many tree species. The Visitor Center is also filled with collaborative activities that engage children and families in hands-on learning. Mobile labs, interpretive nodes and self-guided mobile tours extend the experience beyond the Visitor Center into the arboretum itself. The mobile devices provide content that enriches the experience and help visitors navigate through the park.
