A vibrant social space transformed listening into a two-way dialogue where attendees could share their ideas and build on them with others.
When a TED session ends, the audience buzzes with excitement, inspiration and conversation. As part of GE’s sponsorship of the TED2010 conference, the company wanted to capture that energy in its GE Social Space with a fun, thought-provoking experience that would promote the GE concept of “imagination at work.”
ESI Design’s solution was talk@TED, a beautiful, playful, innovative way to record attendees’ ideas while they were still fresh, then combine them into a collaborative visual, aural and sculptural composition that filled the GE Social Space.
At three record/playback units, housed in luminescent media towers, participants could video record their thoughts and conversations about the TED talks they had just heard. Their responses were then added to the collection of recordings that were playing on screens on the outside surface of the media towers.
The result was a digital composition of faces and voices that evolved over the course of the 5-day event, bringing to life the diversity of ideas shared at the TED conferences.
"We transformed the traditional conference experience into a 2-way dialogue by creating a platform for attendees to share their thoughts and hear what others have to say."
